IDNR Habitat Initiative Field Day
Join us at Sangchris’s Main Office Before We Go on a Habitat Conversion Tour!
Learn how Sangchris Lake State Park turned an area of turfgrass by their offices into a thriving 3-year old prairie, where quail now reside. They will share how they are reducing mowing across their site, allowing for $45,000 in labor costs to be allocated elsewhere in the park. An overview of their habitat restoration plan for the site will be shared, as well as how their habitat projects are planned, the resources used, and how invasive species are managed throughout the park.
About the Habitat Initiative
Restoring and enhancing habitats on lands managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is a central goal identified by the Climate-Smart Natural Areas action team in the agency’s Climate Action Plan (CAP). The IDNR Habitat Initiative’s primary goal is to sustain and improve habitat richness and carbon sequestration by managing our resources with resilience in mind.
